Today started as any other day started. We had breakfast, played games, napped, lunch and played in the sand. At some point Queena was playing with all the kids on the beach so I opted to cook some supper after doing some clean up as I could see some clouds coming over the mountain and figured we might get some rain.
Boy was I wrong. Once I had cleaned up and made supper and turned it to warm in the pan the wind kicked up...majorly. Like crazy waves.... Those storms you don't want to be caught in the middle of the lake storms... I told Queena and the kids to grab all the toys and whatnot they could and put them away. I started working on the dock, the boat, paddle boat, kayaks and more. At some point I looked up and saw the waterline was broken in 2, one piece laying on the beach, the other in the water... Great... Phoned mom and dad... No answer.... Of course. Who do I call next. I need to know what to do... Standing knee deep in the water with waves splashing my chest holding the two lines... Willing them to go back together... I know.. I am so not a plumber.... Finally got an idea to call Henry and Sylvia..aybe they are home from camping.... Nope but they are close and will come help me. Meanwhile Queena and the kids grabbed everything they could on shore, even the solar lights in the ground. I am so thankful they were amazing. Collecting ball, toys, towels, shoes and the works and putting them Into the cabin. They rocked. Mean while I secured the tunes, floating mat, paddle board and boat to the dock. The the paddle boat broke free so I had to find a new rope and secure it to the chain and drag it up on shore. I also got the ski rope from the boat attached to the chain . By this time the dock had moved about 6 feet closer to the shore.....
Finally I thought I had everything braced and ready for the storm. I got out of my wet swim suit and into clothes... Boy was I wrong. As I came up to the cabin to have supper after losing power and I phoned my mom to say I think I was good, had done all I could when the wind kicked it up another notch creating what looked like steam clouds coming off the lake. As it came closer I felt the wind throw sand and water at me on the beach, pelting my body. It was crazy. Then I watched as barrels started coming out from under the dock. I caught the first one as Henry and Sylvia showed up. We turned to watch and other Barrel break free and the floating mat. Sylvia got one of the barrels while Henry and I tackled the mat. The next 4 barrels were lost to the lake... Too rough to go and get them all we could do was stand and watch. We secured the kayaks, trampoline and other bigger items I couldn't do on my own.
As the winds finally calmed we went up to the new house and everything was fine there. No fallen trees of importance or anything. A few windows and doors that needed to be closed by all in all, better than we expected.
Now the winds have died, a few boats braved a late ski and all is well again. The kids spent an hour picking up small branches for the hot tub fire and now we go to bed in the dark. Hope the power will be on again in the morning. Queena was doing laundry when the power went out so her clothes are stuck.in the washer.... And she leaves tomorrow.... Hopefully we can rescue those in the morning.
Anyways... Life is always an adventure and today I am so thankful for queena who kept my kids safe, Riley who was so kind and happy for her and for Henry and Sylvia who came to my rescue. Such a blessing having friends so near.
Well.... my phone is almost dead and I am writing this blog from my car as I charge my phone while the kids sleep. Tomorrow will be power, water and who knows what else....
