The weekend that did not want to end

As most have heard already we had a very adventurous weekend.  It was a weekend of firsts and a very long drive.

Thursday night we headed out at 5pm to go to the cabin.  I had spent the day packing and getting everything ready for when Reuben was home.  So with supper made and the car packed we put Tianna on the potty and headed out.  The first little bit went smooth and just after Dead Mans Flats we stopped to pee, 10 minutes later we stopped again and again at the park gate.  After that it was smooth sailing till Golden where we stopped and got gas, new diapers and off we went.  Tianna stayed awake till just after Revelstoke at 10:30.  However, we did not need to pull out the dvd player which was awesome.  I am so glad we have good travelers.  We got to the cabin at 11:15, unpacked the car, made bed and moved the girls without a problem.  Matt, Reuben and I attempted to get the hot tub running but after 30 minutes gave up and went to the cabin to visit.  Just before 1 i went to bed and the men followed at 3 (according to them)

Friday began bright and early at 6 am BC time...... yuck!  It was kinda a yucky day, cold and windy.   We even had the space heater on over night to get it up to 16 in the trailer.  We pilled on the clothes and went outside. We awoke uncle Matthew in the cabin and started on breakfast..... i love pancakes!  The day went good, other than being cold and windy.  The girls love being outside and were having a blast.  We created a wall for Kaydence so she could not get off the deck and Tianna learned a new place to throw rocks..... off the deck!

The blockade worked nicely.  There was a passage way beside my chair for Tianna to go past and a gate to get to the stairs.  The rest of the day was spent warming up the hot tub after getting the 2 pumps going.  Around 2pm we were able to let Tianna in but it was not warm enough for our liking.  After another hour Matt and I joined her in the tub.  It was great, Tianna loves the water and has so much confidence with her water wings she swims all over the place.  She swam for about 3 hours and then it was time to make supper.  After supper was bedtime and a campfire to keep the bugs away.

Saturday was beautiful.  Hot HOT and HOTTER!  Twas glorious, just what i had been waiting for.  Jenn and Jason came with their girls Mya and Alyssa so we had a great time going in and out of the hot tub, throwing rocks and arguing over toys.  Oh the life of 4 girls the same age.  Around 2pm (after naps) Pake and Beppe showed up so it was hot tub time again.  I swear, Tianna would have lived there if we let her.

We had a great day in the sun visiting with Jenn and Jason and getting snuggles from Alyssa.  I cannot believe how much they grow in 9 months.  Tianna also loved holding Alyssa just as i always did growing up.  I never thought i would have to fight my daughter to get my baby snuggles.

Sunday was home day.  We packed after breakfast so we could spend some time visiting before heading out around noon.  Reuben went for one last quad ride while Kaydence had a nap.  They came back from quad ride, jumped in the Hot Tub and we got to packing the last few things.  Mom took the girls to the water front to throw a few last rocks.

A few minutes later screams were coming from Kaydence at the water front.  Mom looked fine when i glanced her way so i kept going with closing the trailer.  Out of the corner of my eye i saw mom and Jason talking and seeing them put a cloth on Kaydence's hand.  I knew something was wrong.  I ran to the deck to see blood flowing from my daughter hand and Tianna crying.  I grabbed her to take a closer look with Reuben, we knew almost immediately that she would need stitches.  So it was unpacking the car we went, taking out Tianna's stuff and allowing me to sit beside Kaydence in the car for the drive to Salmon Arm.  So off we went, Kaydence screamed till about 10 minutes from the hospital and was out cold.  I was a little worried about her being out but she was exhausted from screaming.  We got to the hospital, took her out and got checked in.  She slept through the nurse checking her out but awoke shortly afterwards and the bleeding started again.  We got a room just after 2pm (45 minutes after arrival) which gave us a little hope that it would be faster than we thought it would be.

However, that hope was soon dashed.  At 3pm Kaydence was done, miserable and leaving blood spot everywhere on her bed sheet.  Fortunately we had an actual room with a door which allowed us to turn the lights fully off, close the door and allow Kaydence to have a good nap.  I awoke at 4:30pm to see that we had still not been seen.  Leaving Kaydence sleeping on the bed and Reuben watching I went to see where we stand and make sure we had not been forgotten.  Just after 5pm the Dr came to put a numbing cream on her hand, she did not even flinch.  Reuben (being an OR Nurse) knew it would take 20 minutes to work and then the dr would come back.  At almost an hour he made an appearance and told us to bundle her with the right arm out so that they can do the stiches and he would be right back.  So we wrapped her and I left.  I knew I could not handle the stiches.  I went and read my book for 15 minutes and went back to find Reuben and Kaydence still waiting for the Dr.  So I unwrapped her, cuddle for a minute or two and then he came back in with 2 nurses ready to go.  I bundled and ran with my book.  10 minutes later I was back and ready for snuggles.  My baby got 4 stitches :(

When I got back I was told we had to wait for and Xray so it was another wait.  By this time it was just after 6pm and neither of us had eaten.  So I made a Tim's run for sandwiches.  I must have looked homeless.  I had dirty, bloody clothes on, with hair that had not been washed all weekend standing at the tim hortons scarfing down a honey cruller as the waitress got out other items.  I had it finished before she came back to let me pay for it.  When a got back the tech still had not come for us so we ate.  Kaydence was hungry too because she also had had little to no food and a lot of bottles.  Tim Horton's had never tasted so good.  Finally after 7 hours we got to go home, free of broken bones and armed with extra bandages and whatnot for the trip home.  On the drive back to the cabin we debated driving back to Calgary that night but by the end of the trip we concluded that was unsafe.  Reuben got a personal day at work and we were free to stay an extra night going back in time to close the bakery and go to boot camp Monday night.

Monday morning was quick, by 9:30am we were packed and ready to go.  Kaydence slept till revelstoke and then the chaos began.  3 times we pulled over to reapply her bandages and the 4th time we took one of my socks and taped it to her shirt so she could not get at the bandages.  She settled into traveling and the drive went smooth till 45 minutes south of Golden.  We hit a standstill, hearing reports of between 1-3 people killed in an accident and hearing between 3-6 hours before the highway would reopen.  We turned around and went back towards Golden, debating what to do.  We knew we would need food if we were going to wait for the highway to reopen.  When we got to Golden we phoned mom and she told us to go over Radium, so we stopped at IGA, got some food and continued on our way.  The girls did good, but they had both slept from golden to the accident and back to golden (about 2 hours) so were done sleeping.  We plugged in a movie for Tianna and when we got to Radium gave Kaydence another bottle.  Snacks were constantly being handed out and we enjoyed the beautiful drive from Radium.  We saw a mom and baby bear, about 20 elk and many more deer along the way.  There was a good train of traffic to follow but we kept moving.

We stopped at the Mt Rundle viewpoint on the highway for a much needed break.  Tianna walked along the wall for a while and Kaydence crawled in the grass.  It was good to get out of the car.  Tangled was the only thing that we had to get Tianna back into the car, it was already 6pm and we were till 2 hours from home.

Finally, at 20 after 8 we arrived at home, unpacked, tried to put the girls to bed, Tianna crashed but Kaydence was up till midnight.  The journey was long and the road was tough but we made it home with 4 extra stitches.  All things considered the girls travel great and I was glad we had a home to stay in for an extra night.
