Day 1; Journey to Holland

Today was a very long or very short day depending on your angle.  It began on Thursday in Calgary at 6am where i lay wide awake in my bed, ready, anxious and excited to be leaving finally for Holland.  I got up, watched surivor while eating breakfast and then fed Kaydence when she got up at 7.  Unlucky for me, Tianna finally decided to sleep in till 8, just becuase i was wide awake and ready to go at 6. Sometimes life is just cruel.  We arose, had breakfast, showered and we ready for the last minute packing before coffee break.  Yes, for everyone who was not there, i made it to coffee break before we left.  It was great to relax, think about and concluded our wonderful series and say bye to everyone.  We then rushed home to a very nicely cleaned house (thanks Reuben :) )  and sorted the last details.  Lunch was next and then we were off and running.  The wonderful snow blizzard made for a great drive to to the airport, thankfully there were no accidents in our way.  We had internet checked in so had the "short line" however the person 2 people in front of us was traveling to Africa with 6 suitcases and attempting to take 3 carryone so there was lots of rearranging and confusion so it took a lot longer than we thought possible.  Finally we were through, bags were taken and we went off to play.  We had a lot of time to kill before the flight so we hung out with mom in the Kidsport before going through security.

Security was easy, better than i thought.  Kaydence's bottle was the only thing tested which was awesome.  Reuben did not even have to turn on the computer!  After security we found out gate and waited.  Just before boarding we figured we should chance the girls and i found my first blond moment or problem.  I forgot Tianna's diapers for on the plane!  There were many words that wanted to come out of my mouth but instead, i fought tears and asked some nearby moms to buy or have a diaper.  2 wonderful ladies gave me a diaper from their bags and i was ever grateful.  I know that Tianna could have fit kaydence's diapers but i did not want to risk running out before getting our destination.  Oh well. by this time we had missed preboarding so boarded with everyone else.... opps!

Oh well, once we were settled Tianna was so excited and Kaydence was talking away.  The girls did amazing, Tianna watched way to much tv and slept only about 1.5 hours but Kaydence slept a good 5 hours on the flight.  We decided not to gravol the girls and to just see how they did and it was great.  Reuben got no sleep and i got about .5 of an hour while Kaydence was sleeping on me.  Needless to say, we were exhausted when we got off.  The flight went really fast, KLM's staff was awesome and we had a great flight experience.  Getting off in Amseterdam took a little longer than we thought, we had stuff everywhere!  But the staff was good and helpful and it was all smiles from both girls as we got off the plane.  Soothers were wonderful for the way up and down so we had no problems with ears!

After we got off the plane it was a very long walk with Tianna and her suitcase all the way to baggage.  She was adorable and wanted to roll her suitcase all the way.  Once were got to the baggage area our suitcases were the only ones left.  It was easy to grab them and go!  Tom, Tessa and Lieke were there to meet us which was wonderful, coffee was found and milkshakes for the girls.  It was wonderful to visit and see them after so many years.  Tianna and Lieke took a little time to get used to each other but were very cute. Tom left for work and we started to look at trains.  We missed the direct train to Gronengen but made the next one with 1 transfer.  The transfer was stressful, probably the worst part of the train, we had to get everything off the one train and 30 seconds later onto the next..  Than we ended up in first class where kids cannot go so we sat with the bikes on folding seats.  It was kinda crazy.  However, we had made it.  Than the girls fell asleep and we did a little later.  We awoke pulling into a station and thought it was ours so we got off...... only to discover that it was one stop early.  opps! So we got our first international call from Jeroen saying he will come and find us in Assan instead.  One stop early.  Good thing it was only 15 minutes away from where he was waiting for us.  20 minutes later we were in the car, heading to Pieze.  Both girls fell asleep in the car but awoke when we got to the house.

Sven, almost 4 and Tianna did great, there is a playground just outside their house that the kids spent a lot of time playing in, digging and sliding.  It was beautiful outside.  Pants and a tank top was almost too warm!  After Karlijn, 1 woke from her nap we went to a playground and petting zoo with the kids,  It was cute to see them running around playing and loving life.  After the park we went to walk to the store for diapers, wipes, shampoo and other things we did not pack because of space.

On the walk Kaydence fell fast asleep and Tianna fell asleep in the car and never woke.  We changed her into pjs and her diaper and she stayed sleeping.  Kaydence stayed up till 8pm, I crashed at 7 to be able to get up with whoever awoke first and Reuben came to bed with Kaydence.  Kaydence woke at midnight for a bottle and some supper as it was 5pm in Calgary.  After playing for a while she fell back asleep. Tianna woke briefly at 2:30 but i put her in our bed and 10 minutes later she was back to sleep.  I woke up at 7am and everyone was still sleeping so i thought i would blog for a bit.  Now i am off to see if the kids are awake.  Facebook has some photos for your to enjoy so have a good one!
